Rosewood oil is also known as Brazilian rosewood oil, Bois de rose, rosewood tree oil but also as a Bahia rosewood oil. Its botanical name is Aniba Rosaeodora and it belongs to the Lauraceae family. It is derived from Brazilian rosewood aka Brazilian evergreen tree through steam distillation. The colorless to pale yellow colored liquid and odor are characteristic and sweet odor and it easily blends with cedarwood, geranium, rosemary, mandarin, and many other oils. It has a sweet, spicy, and fragile floral smell. Rosewood oil is the most valuable essential oil, especially in perfumery. Rosewood oil has a very warm, pleasing, and woody aroma. It has its origin in Brazil. It is native to India and is also grown in plantations in Pakistan (chiniot). Some rosewood comes from Dalbergia retusa and it is also known as the Nicaraguan rosewood or as Palisander. Rosewood oil is commonly distilled from the wood chips of the virgin tree and growing wild in tropical rain forests.
