Mentha Crude Oil

Mentha crude oil is most commonly produced in India in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. It is the mostly consumed essential oils amongst all extracted through the steam distillation of Mentha arvensis leaves and flowers giving a yellowish, pale, transparent touch to the oil. The odor of the oil is very similar to that of menthol. Therefore all the features of the oil are comparable with the features of Mentha arvensis plant. After the oil is extracted it is left for cooling and thereafter 50% of the menthol is separable.

Uses

• Because menthol being the major ingredient of the oil, its constituents are used are used in perfumery and flavoring industry along with it is added in the food to give a cooling effect.
• In Indian households people prefer preparing sauces at home, and Mentha leaves are the main ingredient to prepare such dishes.
• This oil plays a crucial and active role in the manufacturing of toothpastes, skin care products, ointments and lozenges.
